Verde
A soul of human girl inside an artificial body. The Destroyer side of Beacon Guardian who lays righteous indignation upon aggressors
One aspect of Beacon Guardian who now resides at Numidium Beacon Site as part of the penance after the Empty Tome Incident. Her jovial, carefree nature comes from the soul of the original, young Terra.
Introduction
The titular Beacon Guardian is composed of two entities that together secure the now sacred site of Numidium. Verde is the second, created by “Pars Mythos” to use her as a means to hunt her rogue counterpart.
Verde’s design is a stark contrast to Erde’s. Her body was shaped from a homunculus taken from the far side of the Library, while her soul is the original inhabitant of Erde’s being. The mismatched design caused an interesting effect: the soul’s geomantic power not only returned, but was amplified tenfold. Though her new body is more agile and adaptable to the harsh conditions of The Rift, it comes with a lack of compliance toward preprogrammed commands, making her prone to going berserk.
With her new form, Verde would set a direct path toward the construct that she believed had stolen her real body. In their fateful first encounter, both Guardians participated in a glorious duel resulting in catastrophic damage to the Great Library’s former main hall. When the dust finally settled, the two could be heard arguing with one another, much like sisters. Seeing the value from their respective viewpoints, the Guardians would ultimately choose peace and would come to terms by the end of the Empty Tome revolt.
Despite this, the sisters would be sentenced to a lifetime of servitude in Numidium by the Great Archivists for the destruction and chaos they inflicted upon the Library. The Terra Sisters still reside by the ancient tree where they continue their eternal watch as the Beacon Guardian.
Background
Origin
Little is known about who she was and where she came from, except for a small note in Pars Mythos’ archive.
The girl who would become “Terra” was an unknown girl who got stranded in The Rift after an unknown incident involving a tear in reality in her home world. Possessed a strong geomancy power, she proved to be capable of fending off Lurkers in The Rift until a Pars Mythos member made contact with her.
The girl was then brought to Pars Mythos’ den as she was promised a way back home by the group. The vast chambers and collections of the Great Library have lulled her into a false sense of security–unbeknownst to her, Pars Mythos had a plan for her.
Eventually, the girl was trapped in a chamber deep in the Library, where several hooded people started chanting. Forbidden chants that bound the girl with ether cords, which allowed one of those people to draw her soul out of her body. Her body was then infused with a Construct soul while her soul was kept in a sealed urn stored among ancient tomes and parchments in the chamber abandoned by those hooded people.
Empty Tome Saga
At the early stage of the Pars Mythos Revolt, their plan was foiled thanks to “Terra,” who escaped containment and joined ranks with a band of explorers who got caught in the crossfire between Pars Mythos and Grand Archivists. To make up for the loss of their trump card and counteract “Terra”’s change of heart, Pars Mythos created another super weapon.
Used a homunculus’ spare body from another experiment, and they infused a soul into it–not a mere soul, but a soul of the geomancer girl whose body was used to create “Terra”. The end result, not much unlike the original “Terra”, was beyond their expectations as she came back to life with even more tremendous power. So much power, in fact, that she almost destroyed the chamber where her soul was infused into a new body, along with Pars Mythos operatives who did the ritual to bring her back to life. Left with no name, she decided to call herself “Terra” as well.
Learned that her body was being used for nefarious purposes, she launched herself to the Library’s surface and jumped straight onto where “Terra” was located. She then relentlessly attacked “Terra” with great impunity, only to be easily shrugged off, as the original “Terra” possesses great defense that nullifies her immense strength, causing the collapse of the Great Library’s main hall–the devastation they had committed warranted severe punishment from the Grand Archivists once the revolt concluded.
At the end of Pars Mythos Revolt, she, along with the original “Terra,” was apprehended, sent to Numidium, and had their soul bound to the beacon in the realm. Together, they become known as Beacon Guardian.
Prior to Scarlet Record
To differentiate her from her twin, she was given the name “Verde” once she started her service in Numidium. They maintain the last Numidian Beacon, a crucial navigational aid among Riftwalkers and other beings who wander in The Rift.
Ten years after the Pars Mythos Revolt, the beacon went dim. Riftwalkers’ Guild dispatched a cohort to investigate, but they needed authorization and additional personnel. That additional personnel is Ruby of Scarlet Corner.
With Ruby, they investigated the cause of the beacon’s dim light and met the delirious Verde, who guarded the beacon with her sister. After a brief clash against the twins, Ruby could make Verde come to her senses. While they didn’t explain it explicitly, the twins’ consciousness is linked to Numidium, and any alterations made within the realm may affect their state of mind. Then, knowing their situation, Verde went to remold broken resin slabs and restore the beacon light and their consciousness. Whether Ruby or the Guild member helped in this effort is unknown.
Characteristics
Unlike her sister, Verde retains her personality. Jovial and cheerful in nature, she maintains her carefree characteristics, and sometimes she can be a little bit explosive.
In contrast to her sister, Verde can move on from her past acts easily without forgetting her own wrongdoings. While not openly showing her wisdom, she would sneak in a few witty remarks and advice in a mostly lighthearted tone. For those who don’t get it, they’d see her as a little bit peppy and sometimes, childish.
It is known that Verde likes sports and games, especially those involving balls. The problem is, the balls in question are mostly made of dirt, clay, or stone. Whether it relates to customs from her yet-to-be-known realm is still a mystery.
Capabilities
Verde prefers erratic movements and surprise approaches when dealing with problems, to her sister’s chagrin. The pulse of her spunky energy is as constant as she wants it to be, leaving quite an impression.
Thanks to Inverse Soul Infusion, Verde not only regains her geomancy, her power increases tenfold. She can manipulate earth, raise clay pillars, and generate earthquakes with a gentle tap on the ground. Her geomancy also empowers her fists, enabling her to break down walls and make craters with her bare hands.
The geomancy she possesses can also be applied to enhance her speed and power, making her a very nimble force of nature. Her combination of strength and finesse is proven useful against rogue Constructs within Numidium.
